Effective date: September 27, 2026
This is the direct notice that the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA," 15 U.S.C. §§ 6501 to 6506, and the FTC's COPPA Rule, 16 C.F.R. Part 312) requires us to give you, the parent or guardian, before we collect personal information relating to your child under 13. It supplements the Privacy Notice you accept in the app, which is the full record of what the app holds.
This notice covers athletes under 13 in the Youth FIRST Athletics app. The most important fact comes first:
Children under 13 never have a login and cannot use the app themselves. We do not collect any information directly from a child under 13. Everything about an under-13 athlete is entered and managed by you, the parent or guardian, through your own account, or recorded by Coach during training. When your child turns 13, a login of their own can be set up with an email you give from your account (Coach can also set it up); their history carries over, and you keep your view of it.
Because the child never uses the app, the information below is information you provide about your child, plus training observations Coach records. We still treat all of it as children's personal information and protect it accordingly.
When you add your child in the app, you sign the Assumption of Risk, Waiver of Liability, and Parental Consent Agreement by typing your full name. Its section 8A, "Your Family's Data," is your consent, on your child's behalf, to the practices the Privacy Notice describes, and its section 6 asks the photo and video question. The app stores your signature with the date and the agreement's version. You also accept the Privacy Notice itself at login, and again for every new version; each acceptance is recorded with its version and time. The Parental Consent and Acknowledgment page walks through each step.
Some things need their own separate yes, each asked on its own: a clip on the squad highlight reel (see the photo and video release), a recruiting page, an alumni spotlight or a Hall of Fame plaque, XP and ranks, and the two-week fueling pulse Coach sees. Florida also asks a parent to sign a concussion form once a year before training.
If you do not consent, your child cannot be enrolled in the app. You can withdraw at any time, as described under Your rights below.
Provided by you when you add your child:
Recorded during training (by Coach, or by you on your child's behalf):
Nutrition (FIRST Fuel): built from a parent intake and producing general fueling ranges, never a diet. A child under 13 has no login, so FIRST Fuel is yours to use, and no nutrition data is collected from the child. Coach cannot see the intake, the plan or any food log; Coach sees only the two-week fueling pulse, if you choose to send it, and your child's allergies, which are a safety record.
Photos and videos: you may upload highlight photos and videos; they are kept in private storage, served through expiring links, and seen by your family and Coach. A clip reaches the squad highlight reel, which only our team sees, only if you said yes to the photo and video release, you share that clip, and Coach approves it. The photo and video release explains what a yes also allows.
What we never collect from or about children: no artificial-intelligence processing, no biometrics (no fingerprint or face is ever scanned), no audio recording (the app never turns on a microphone), no ads or trackers, no direct contact with your under-13 child (their reminders come to you), and no identifiers gathered from a child's own device (they have no login).
You choose the retention setting per athlete under Data & Privacy: keep until you delete it, a rolling 12 months, or keep until the athlete turns 18, with a push and an inbox message thirty days before, when one tap keeps the record instead. Details are in our Data Retention & Deletion document.
At any time you may:
Exercising these rights affects only your child's use of the app; the coaching relationship is between your family and Coach Jon.
Consent comes through your own signed-in parent account: you create it with Coach's join code and your email, and Coach approves it before it can be used. From it you add your child and sign the agreement above with your typed name; the app stores the signature with its date and version. Because a child under 13 has no login, no collection about them can begin any other way.
The FTC publishes plain-language COPPA guidance for parents at ftc.gov/coppa. The Privacy Notice, which this notice supplements, is the full list of what the app holds.
